Maersk Sets Sail with ZEDEDA

May 05, 2025

In a move that reimagines shipping operations, A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), the global leader in integrated container logistics and supply chain services, has selected ZEDEDA as a key technology provider enabling its next-generation OneWireless IoT connectivity platform.

The partnership marks a milestone in Maersk’s digital transformation journey, aiming to enhance real-time cargo tracking, supply chain visibility, and fleet-wide operational efficiency. ZEDEDA will power the OneWireless platform across Maersk’s massive fleet of vessels.

“With our next-generation connectivity platform, we will be able to offer our customers notable benefits, including real-time cargo tracking, enhanced supply chain visibility, and improved operational efficiency,” said Kjeld Dittmann, Head of Vessel & Cargo Connectivity at Maersk. “This platform is designed to support thousands of IoT devices, ensuring optimal performance for reefer tracking and fleet IoT.”

Bringing Intelligence to the Edge of the Sea

Operating in the maritime industry comes with unique challenges: remote locations, intermittent connectivity, and limited on-board IT expertise. ZEDEDA’s edge computing platform is purpose-built to address these hurdles. It allows Maersk to deploy and manage any application on any edge device, across its fleet, all from a centralized control point.

This capability means Maersk can now roll out new applications remotely, update existing ones over the air, and maintain high performance standards, without the need for technical staff on every vessel.

Unified Connectivity, Scalable Innovation

The OneWireless platform is engineered to support a range of wireless technologies – including NB-IoT, Cat-M, and LTE broadband – offering seamless scalability, top-tier security, and future-ready flexibility. It is designed to operate across both private and public networks, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring and analytics, whether a container is at sea, in port, or on land.

The open and standards-based nature of the platform also supports BYOIoT (Bring Your Own IoT) solutions, enabling Maersk’s customers to integrate their own devices and services with minimal friction.

From Reefer Tracking to Autonomous Operations

ZEDEDA’s platform plays a vital role in enabling Maersk’s ambitions beyond connectivity. It lays the groundwork for autonomous vessel operations, advanced reefer container tracking, and edge-based data analytics,  all in real time.

“Maersk is leveraging ZEDEDA to deliver innovative solutions that ensure optimal performance for refrigerated container tracking, fleet IoT, and autonomous vessel operations,” said Said Ouissal, CEO and founder of ZEDEDA. “We’re excited to collaborate with Maersk as they enable real-time data sharing and analysis at unprecedented speed and reliability.”

Full Deployment on the Horizon

The rollout of the OneWireless solution is already underway, with plans to complete deployment across 450 vessels by Q1 2026. In addition to ZEDEDA, the solution seamlessly incorporates technology from providers such as Onomondo, Nokia, 42com, and Complea. As Maersk charts this digital course, the company is not only reimagining logistics but setting a new benchmark for edge-powered operations at sea.
