Since 1941, the Fourth of July (also known as Independence Day) has been a federal holiday. According to History.com, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence on July 2, 1776. Following this event, thirteen colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later – and as we’ve all learned in early education years – this significant document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson. Generations later, Americans still get together to celebrate this special day of independence and continue the tradition around the U.S.
In the Bay Area, many folks look forward to July 4th – not only are we celebrating our independence – but a day off work means spending more time with family and friends.
