As edge deployments evolve, organizations are demanding more standardization, extensible platforms, and smarter solutions.
The growing sophistication of edge computing is now centered on AI, from composite and embodied AI to physical and agentic AI, transforming how enterprises operate.
By 2029, Gartner forecasts that:
- more than 20% of edge computing vendors will offer integrated solutions specifically for manufacturing, up from 5% in 2024
- 30% of enterprises will be using edge computing platfor software or services for their edge computing architecture
- at least 60% of edge computing deployments will use composite AI (both predictive and generative AI [GenAI]), compared to less than 5% in 2023.
- by 2028, 15% of edge computing deployments will be using agentic AI, up from near 0% in 2024.
